The Androgynous Vault is a blog (and sometimes vlog) about the lives of two androgynous girls in Brisbane. This blog offers a perspective of life through androgynous eyes.
Volume 19 - The Glamorous Kind
Let's set the scene.
Come together by The Beatles rocking my iTunes, the fan at full speed cooling the sweat dripping from my body (just kidding it's not that hot) and a nice cold can of coconut juice with pulp chilling in the fridge waiting for me to drink it's deliciousness.
Now on with the blog.
We've all thought about it.
Living "the dream"..."the glamourous life". Spending loads of money on ridiculous things. Partying with the rich and the famous. Running away from screaming crowds wanting to just touch your hand and say "I will never wash this hand again" and globe trotting the world in our own jet. No? not in your thoughts? Call me a dreamer then.
This week's blog is a tribute to the Androgynous celebrities who have paved the way for us little lady boys and manly girls. The ones who have said "NO, I will dress the way I want and look the way I want". The ones that make me not feel like a freak in the little boys clothes section at the supermarket. The ones who make it easier for us to be us and confuse the hosts of dumb TV shows like Today Tonight.
I've come up with a bit of a list (with the help of my awesome friends from Facebook- shout out goes to the following: Chrissie B, Susan, Matt G, Chantal, Tee, Kirstin, Sylvia, Lukas and even Joshua White).
This list is in no particular order and is not the be all and end all of absolutely amazing androgynous celebs. There's loads out there but this gives you something to bite off and chew.
Andrej Pejic- The Aussie Androgynous Model
If you click back to my last blog "Bright Lights and Two Sprit Sexuality" you will read about when this stunning model was mentioned on Today Tonight.
He is the new big thing according to critics in the fashion scene and rightly so I must add. He is now the face of Marc Jacobs and is apparently booked for 2011. Not bad for a 19 year old fella from the 'burbs. This seems like really new shiny news for mainstream public. Reality hit- Calvin Klein has been frothing over the concept of Androgyny for years. Here's a list of more stunning models who say FUCK YOU (well maybe they don't say those two words) to gender constructs and make a living out of it:
Kate Moennig- aka Shane from The L Word
Kate is an actress who starred in the lesbian TV show The L Word. She played Shane who was pretty much the female version of Casanova. She's got a rocking look and always has awesome hair. She's the androg girl that a lot of lesbians want to be or want to sleep with. She has this aura of cool. You know the type. After finishing up The L Word Kate now stars on the new TV show called "Three Rivers". Here's a random fact she auditioned for the lead role of the film "Boys don't cry" which was won by Hilary Swank.
Here's a list of more Androgynous actors who rock the aura of cool:
Adam Lambert- The Androgynous Idol
To be honest I don't know much about him. I give him props for auditioning on one of the most watch reality tv shows. What way to see if you'd be judged by what you look like or by your talent. He put himself up to the challenge and yeah he received a lot of crap for his orientation and his looks but he also received a lot of positive attention and it's been quite some time since an Androgynous figure hit the mainstream. Needless to say there are a lot of amazing talented androgynous musicians:
Tegan and Sara
So there it is. Some of the most beautiful Androgynous people living the life of the rich and famous.
Feel free to comment with your own list. I'd like to read about what you think and who you rate.
