Volume 22: Androgyny on Holiday - part two
Greetings lesbian folk and readers of all other sexual orientations, after my last blog a lot has happened. Firstly I've had a haircut, secondly I found some Tasmanian lesbians and thirdly my hometown was completely flooded and just because I can I'm going to address all of those topics in reverse.
Firstly I need to thank my co host of this blog for an amazing job on her video last week, although the images of the floods may not mean much to some of the readers of this blog those photos were of my hometown and my favourite city in the world. The images meant a lot to me especially being so far away from home at the moment and it was really quite shocking to see how this disaster has completely crippled a major city. I've always been the person sitting at home watching the news of floods, fires, earthquakes and other disasters on television saying 'that will never happen to me' but finally it has happened to me and it woke me up. I felt so ignorant but at the same time I felt so sad as I watched 24 hour news casts of how the flood waters had destroyed homes and businesses so quickly and so dangerously.
On the other side of the coin I have been extremely impressed with the amount of volunteers that have been helping with the clean up of the floods. From what I've seen on the news and from what I've heard there are actually too many volunteers and they have had to turn people away. I think this is an incredible display of human spirit and generosity and it makes me proud to be a human being and a human being from Brisbane.
Onto the next topic which has probably caught the attention of a few readers. Tasmanian lesbians - I found them! Since I've been in Tasmania I've noticed a severe lack of lesbians. Okay let me change that...I don't think Tasmania is lacking lesbians...I think that the Tasmanian lesbians are hiding. I tested this hypothesis and it turns out it's true...however the next important discovery of mine was finding out where the lesbians were hiding!
On Friday night I ventured out on the town, and by town I mean Hobart - the capital city of Tasmania. While it may be true that my first priority was to find some seaside bars and sip sangria until the sun finally sank below the horizon (Daylight savings pun), I later accepted a late evening mission to find a gay bar in Hobart. What I found was definitely not a gay bar...no, it was much better than that. It was an underground indie/alternative bar with patrons including all kinds of misfits, outsiders and/or outcasts. I was in heaven and soon enough I saw the lesbians lurking in the shadows, dancing to the amazing music and making out in the girls bathroom. My mission was successful and I managed to gain valuable information from the Tasmanian lesbians. It was a night well spent and a night made infinitely awesome by a late night gig from Miss Amanda Palmer at the pub after midnight.
As this blog progresses I must remember to touch on my third important topic of this blog.
I got a haircut.
As always thank you for reading, stay tuned for more Tasmanian adventures and don't forget to be awesome.
Small disclaimer: I don't want to offend or anger any out and proud Tasmanian lesbians that may be readings this and reading that I believe Tassie lesbians are 'hiding'. I'm sure there are many out and proud lesbians down this way and I don't mean hiding in the closet. I simply meant hiding from my eye.
