The Androgynous Vault is a blog (and sometimes vlog) about the lives of two androgynous girls in Brisbane. This blog offers a perspective of life through androgynous eyes.

Volume 24 - righto chaps! cup of tea then? Let's celebrate!

Well friends I have returned home from my extraordinarily long holiday. Sometimes I think two months is far too long to holiday because there's only so long you can live out of a suitcase...but also this holiday was very satisfying for a number of reasons that I won't go into here (*cough* Tasmanian lesbians). I joke, I joke, and I hope my girlfriend doesn't read this entry (Hi Jemma!) To address another topic very quickly up here in the top section of this blog, I would like to announce that as of Thursday February third I am officially a duel citizen! That is Australian/British. Righto then chaps! Cup of tea then? Let's celebrate!

In this blog extraordinaire (yes it will be extraordinary, which seems to be the favourite word of this blog) I wish to address several topics that I hope will be interesting and stimulating to you and you and you and you.

Firstly, yes it's true, I have returned to the big bad state of Queensland. I say big and bad because Queensland must have done something bad to annoy Mother Nature this bad. Since I've been away, Brisbane - the capital of Queensland, as you know has been devastated with the worse floods in history. Whole suburbs have been completely destroyed and 75% of our state was covered in flood waters (The size of France and Germany put together!). Just as Queenslanders were beginning to rebuild their beloved cities, far north Queensland was hit by a category 5 cyclone called cyclone Yasi. For those of you playing at home that aren't quite sure what a cyclone is, I believe it's the same thing as American's call 'Hurricanes'. Basically a very very very big scary storm with 300km/hour winds that remove roofs off houses like you or I would peel a lid of a yogurt container. Insane! Cyclone Yasi ripped trees straight out of the ground and threw them on houses, smashed windows, threw debris through streets and ruined about 90% of Queensland's banana plantations. North Queensland is where Australia grows a lot of bananas and sugar cane. As of this day on my friends, bananas are going to be quite rare in our country at least until next season.

For the second point of this blog I'd just like to mention the perspective documentary series I have been uploading on my youtube channel. This series is a documentation of my thoughts and the perspective I gained from my journey through Australia for the past two months. If you'd like to check it out go to my youtube channel

There are some segments up now, more will be uploaded in the course of the next few days.

For the meaty part of this blog I thought I'd bring some attention to the rise of androgynous fashion lately, because to be honest, androgyny in pop culture has been on the increase lately. Especially the fashion industries whom have introduced so many 'androgynous' looks being hailed as creative and trendy. Firstly though, as MoneT has mentioned in previous blogs, androgyny is not new to the fashion industry and there are many androgynous models. In addition to this, it only takes a simple google search 'androgyny in fashion 2011' to bring up articles raving about the new androgynous fashion that has become popular this year, such as 'fashions latest fixation - androgyny', 'Spring/Summer 2011 male androgyny', 'Fashion 2011- androgyny, albinos and alabaster'. I bring your attention to an article I read titled, Kate Moss, Lea T. and Justin Biever in Androgynous threeway. You can see why this got my attention.

link: http://fashionindie.com/kate-moss-lea-t-and-justin-bieber-in-androgynous-threeway/

The article beings with a picture of the new LOVE magazine cover and a caption -  "Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot shot Lea T. and Kate Moss locking lips or the Spring 2011 androgyny issue of LOVE magazine (meanwhile, every issue of LOVE is an androgyny issue). Justin Bieber will be on another cover, hopefully being spooned by Lea and Kate, that will no doubt have soccer mom’s the nation over in an uproar of Tea Party proportions". - fashionindie.com

Now I don't have a problem with Lea T. and Kate Moss kissing on the front cover but perhaps this magazine and the fashion industry are confusing two things we androgynous folk feel very passionate about and this takes us back to the old gender identity and sexual orientation argument. The fashion industry are portraying these two topics as a positive correlation however gender identity and sexual orientation are two completely different things, completely separate of each other and should not be interpreted as being linked. I don't think I have the energy to go too much into this argument in the blog, perhaps another time? But please leave your comments on the topic, I would like to know you're opinion.

Righto, I think it's about time I had that cup of tea to celebrate officially being British. For all the US folks reading, stay warm in those blizzards, Queenslanders keep your chin up, she'll be right! We'll fix this wrecked state. For everyone else, eat lots of fruit, drinks lots of water and don't forget to be awesome!
